Four days of theatre, music, discussions and actions in the public space of Prosfygika, in defence of the Community of the Occupied Refugee Buildings. The performances unfold at different points across the neighbourhood, while every evening the Square becomes a place of dialogue around housing, the city, art and the communities that shape it.

The Antifascist Festival of Performing Arts returns from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 June 2026 at the Prosfygika of Alexandras Avenue, twelve years after the unforgettable nights of the summer of 2014. This time, though, not only to celebrate free life and community, but as a call and an act of solidarity in the struggle to defend the Community of the Occupied Refugee Buildings.

The Prosfygika of Alexandras Avenue is a listed complex of eight apartment blocks with a total of 228 apartments, protected for its historical, cultural, sociopolitical and architectural significance. Today the Community of the Occupied Refugee Buildings is a model housing squat that combines features of social housing and self-organised community, hosting more than 400 people from different countries: families, elderly people, refugees, migrants, locals.

In the summer of 2025, behind the backs of all the residents and in open contempt for their very existence, a programmatic agreement was signed between the Ministry of Culture, the Region of Attica and DYPA for the "restoration" of four refugee blocks, with the declared aim of using them as "social housing". Yet behind the shop window of "public benefit" hides an eviction with a signature and a stamp. By baptising it "social housing", three institutions join hands to turn housing into a commodity. With vagueness as a tool of disorientation, the plan stays blurred: the more abstract the benefit, the more easily the space is handed over to business interests.

But Prosfygika is not real estate to be exploited. It is a self-organised neighbourhood, a living community ready to defend its survival, its collective joy, its dignity and its freedom to the end, and for this it has the support of all of us.
